The ability to reapply for awards from Last Mile, as well as the speed in which an individual hears back, are the best parts of the fund. The first Last Mile award I received was in my junior year. I remember I was working on these big projects and everything was saved on my computer, and my laptop broke and I really urgently needed a new one. A friend of mine had told me about Last Mile, and that they had emergency awards. With Last Mile’s help, I got a new laptop so that I didn’t fail my classes.

Application & Processing Our intake is built for urgency, not a proactive scholarship cycle. We verify and disburse in weeks, and we refer students to their institution's own emergency funds first wherever one exists.
Marketing & Impact We lead with the finish-line moment, not the enrollment moment. Every student story names a specific gap — a lab fee, a laptop, a tuition shortfall — not a general hardship narrative.
Funder & Partner Conversations We position new funds — like the Semiconductor Pathways Fund — as workforce infrastructure, not charity, anchored in SROI data, not need alone.

Hundreds of millions of dollars have recently gone into expanding access to training in semiconductors, AI, and the skilled trades. Almost none of it protects the students already inside those pipelines from the financial disruption that pulls them out before they finish. A modest completion safety net protects an investment many times its size — by making sure the training America is already funding actually produces graduates.
